Photography and stress relief

Updated: Jul 4, 2021

As people throughout the world coped with the pandemic, they sought solace through a variety of techniques and hobbies. Photography is one activity that people discovered or explored more deeply, finding it both a way to zone out of stress yet zone in on the everyday and amazing.

Staying connected to #nature to try to catch sunsets or watch local wildlife helped keep my mind off the drudgery and tragedy of the pandemic.

I often spent my Sunday afternoons at a wildlife refuge, watching eagles, snowgeese, ducks, and swans. The wonderful sounds had such a soothing effect, whether it was the flapping of wings, tentative squawks, or loud honks.

Chances are, you have some amazing #photography sites near you, whether it's a #lake, a park, some forests, or even your #backyard. Here some interesting ideas for backyard photography from Girls Who Click, but there are many articles and ideas floating around on the interwebs. If you like to photograph people or still life, you can even construct your own DIY backyard photography backdrop.

If you want to learn more, check out your local community college, municipal recreation website, or meetup bulletins for online or in-person photography groups. Your local photography store might sell used equipment or offer reasonably priced classes.

I hope you've already found some helpful ways to proceed through the pandemic or any stressful situation, whether it's reading, a call or online meeting with a friend, or a walk in a park. If you want to add more, consider adding photography to your list, even if it's casual cell phone photography for yourself and friends.
